Ohio State Fireworks Law
It's illegal to sell, give or permit to be sold or
given to any person under 18 years old. The only exception to this law is that
parents or guardians may provide sparklers to children under 12.
It's also against the law to set off fireworks within
600 feet of an occupied structure, set them off on the public property, or sell
them to anyone who is intoxicated. Punishment for violating any of these laws
can result in a fine of $1,000 and/or six months in jail.
According to Ohio State Fire Marshal's office, you do
not need a permit to buy or discharge fireworks in Ohio. However, you should
always check with your local city ordinances to see if there are any
restrictions on setting off fireworks. Some cities have bans on setting off
fireworks, while others have time restrictions.
For example, the City of Columbus allows fireworks to
be discharged from 10 am to 10 pm from June 29 to July 3 and from 10 am to
midnight on July 4. The City of Cincinnati has a similar ordinance with time
